Neillsville School Board Approves Two Make-Up Days
Thursday, February 20th, 2014 -- 8:22 AM
-The Neillsville School Board approved two make up days to reach the 180 days that is required by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction.Neillsville used a total of 5 days so far this year. 4 days were used for the extreme cold we experienced the past couple months and one was used on Friday due to the water crisis in Neillsville. However, the district did receive a waiver for last Friday?s day off, categorizing the day as a health emergency.
The make-up days approved were March 3rd and March 31st. March 3rd was a teacher in-service day and March 31st was just a vacation day for the district. They also decided to have a backup make-up day of April 21st in case they need to use another day before Winter is over.
Neillsville?s District Administrator, John Gaier, did say that he?s aware people often plan family trips around this time and they would excuse those students without any truancy issues.
Mr. Gaier also mentioned a bill circling in the Wisconsin Legislature offering more flexibility with the 180 school days which could take effect as early as this year. The bill could allow them to just add minutes to their school day to make up for lost time.
