More Local Cities Asking Residents to Run Water

Tuesday, February 18th, 2014 -- 1:59 PM

-As the long and harsh winter continues, many cities are asking residents to keep their water running at all times.

Several municipalities have asked residents to turn on a cold water faucet and let it run a small, but constant stream of water to help keep pipes from freezing. The stream should be the size of a pencil lead. The bitter cold winter has forced frost deeper than most winters, wreaking havoc on the pipes.

Granton, Greenwood, Abbotsford, Thorp, Augusta, Boyd, Medford, Merrillan, Fairchild, Cadott, Gilman, Taylor and Black River Falls have all asked their residents to continually run their water until further notice.

The City of Neillsville has currently NOT ordered their residents to run their water. Other cities like Loyal and Owen have asked homes that have a history of pipes freezing to trickle their water.
