-BREAKING, WATER UPDATE: The City of Neillsville has found and fixed the leak which was near the hospital. The Neillsville Utility and Public Work Department has issued a Boil/Bottle Water Advisory. This advisory states that the loss of water pressure in the city can allow contaminants to enter the system. Once the pressure is fully restored; a test will be done to check for coliform bacteria. It is unknown if contamination has occurred. Once the test is done, if there is no contamination, the order will be lifted.
ICE, FOOD, AND ANY BEVERAGES PREPARED WITH UNSAFE WATER MUST BE DISCARDED. You should boil your tap water or use bottle water for drinking, food preparation, and ice making. The boil should be a rolling boil.
Coliform Bacteria can cause diarrhea, cramps, nausea, headaches and other symptoms. Infants, young children, the elderly and people with compromised immune systems are at risk. Seek medical attention if you have these symptoms.
John Ross, of Emergency Management, offered his thanks to the residents for their cooperation and to those involved in the efforts to resolve the issue including those from the city and county who helped. He said it?s a good reminder for people to have a plan for coping with disaster by having a supply kit which includes a three day supply of water for drinking and cooking along with the other recommended items.
