Granton School Board Approves Requesting Waiver to Start Next School Year Early

The Granton School Board began their meeting with the introduction of the Valedictorian and Salutatorian.
Granton Principal Amanda Kraus presented Makenzie Muraski (Valedictorian) and Kristin Strey (Salutatorian). Student Council Representative Tanner Friedemann reported on the FFA Week Activities, mentioned that the Digital Display TV in the Hallway outside the High School Office is installed and operating, five Forensic Students competed and will go on to the next level, and Open Gym for Baseball started last week in the fieldhouse.
Also, Cheryl Steinbach reported the Granton Area School Foundation Sweet Treats Social will be on June 12th at the Granton Fire Station. The Board heard a report by John Richmond about the Strategic Plan Facilities and Finance Action Team and the recommendations.
They also discussed the 2021-22 school calendar proposal and passed a resolution to request a waiver of the commencement of the school year September 1. If approved by the Department of Public Instruction, the first day of school will be August 23rd.
The Board also approved 8 Start College Now applications and 7 Early College Credit applications for the 2021-22 fall semester and approved the WIAA co-op agreement for girl’s hockey with Black River Falls for 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years.
The Board also approved the WIAA co-op agreement for boy’s hockey with Black River Falls for 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years, approved the CESA 10 Service Contract Estimates for 2021-22, and approved five Chapter 10 policies with no changes, revisions of one Chapter 2 policy, one chapter 4 policy and revisions of sixteen Chapter 10 policies.
The Board also reviewed COVID-19 Protocol Plan and made no changes continuing with the current face mask requirement. The discussed allowing banquets, concerts, FFA Lock-in and other activities at school while continuing to follow COVID-19 protocols.
In employment matters, the board approved hiring Janna Frey as child care worker in the Granton Community Child Care Center, approved hiring Andy Radloff as the head HS baseball coach, approved hiring Daniel Hebert as the assistant HS baseball coach, approved the resignation of Annette Woller as the MS girls’ basketball coach and thanked her for her service, approved the resignation of Jason Strey as the varsity girls’ basketball coach and thanked him for his service, approved the resignation of Alaina Rojas as the assistant varsity girls’ basketball coach and thanked her for her service, and approved the resignation of Cody Roggenbauer as athletic director and thanked him for his service.
The board also heard the Administrators’ Reports. Principal Amanda Kraus updated the board that 44% of students were contacted on the last Virtual Learning/Reinforcement Day. Also, she is working with staff on an AODA Grant Application.
Interim Superintendent James Kuchta updated the board on the financial migration of data from the Alio software to Skyward is a work in progress. The District is currently working in two business software systems.
Three Strategic Plan Steering Committee meetings were held with nearly 50 different people in attendance. The next meeting will be on March 11th. This will be the fourth meeting of the Steering Committee.
Five action teams have been formed and are working on their respective topics. COVID-19 vaccine date is set for Friday, March 12th for Neillsville and Granton Schools. Lastly, Mr. Kuchta gave an update on maintenance expenditures and savings to the district.
