Neillsville Chamber of Commerce Recognition Banquet, Part 3

Wednesday, February 5th, 2014 -- 1:33 PM

-The Neillsville Chamber of Commerce held their recognition banquet on Saturday night at the Neillsville American Legion.

Dr. Greg Foster, the presenter of the awards, gave a brief background about the Spotlight Award Winner, Pat Mrotek.

"This year's spotlight award honors a woman who has dedicated her life to helping others," said Dr. Foster. "Pat Mrotek began her volunteer work with the Red Cross in 1959 when she attended a blood drive, but wasn't allowed to donate because she was underweight. So, she stayed to help out with the event instead. Her career as a nurse at Memorial Medical Center started a year later in 1960 and she continued to volunteer for blood drives becoming the chairperson for the Clark County Red Cross Bloodmobile in 1979. Throughout the years, Pat donated blood at each drive, focusing on her goal of reaching 100 pints. It took her almost 50 years to accomplish that goal, but recently Pat hit the mark of 104 pints or 13 gallons."

Dr. Foster continued extending appreciation for Pat to those that help and donate at the blood drives.

Dr. Foster said, "In 1985, she became a Hospice volunteer and shortly after a volunteer at the House of the Dove. She continues to serve people in those capacities as well as Interfaith Caregivers that helps the home bound in our community. Pat asked us to extend her thanks to all the people that help out at the blood drive."

Congratulations to Pat Mrotek.
