New Communications System for Jackson County
Tuesday, January 28th, 2014 -- 8:21 AM
-Jackson County has a new Communications System. The process has been a couple years in the making and the new radio system for emergency responders went live on January 15th.
The system had to be upgraded due to a federal government mandate to switch to narrowband. The county?s old system wasn?t able to support narrowband causing gaps in the coverage area.
There is still some fine tuning left, but overall the system is working well. The new system has four channels highway, police, fire and multi-purpose.
Clark County is currently looking into upgrading its communications system as they face similar problems.
