Give It A Rest Old Man Winter!
Monday, January 27th, 2014 -- 8:18 AM
-Old Man Winter has been unusually cruel this season with one blast of extreme cold after another and he?s at it again. An arctic cold front has swept across all of Wisconsin helping temperatures drop into the teens below zero. Temperatures are hovering around -20 right now and with the strong, blustery winds the wind chills are reading well into the -40 below zero mark. Tonight may be even worse, feeling closer to -50?, when air temperatures will be their lowest.
These harshly cold conditions can be very dangerous and lead to frostbite within minutes. The best advice is to stay inside as much as possible. The cold snap is expected to break by Wednesday.
In the wake of the extreme cold, Governor Scott Walker has called a State of the Emergency, the state is dealing with a propane shortage, Xcel Energy, WE Energies, and Midwest Natural Gas Company are asking customers to conserve natural gas due to a ruptured pipeline, the Wisconsin DOT is asking people to limit their travels and area schools are closed today.
