Owen City Council Discussed Discharge Process of Local Business

-The Owen City Council discussed the discharge process for a local business at their meeting last week.Kerry Ingredients has applied to the DNR for a permit to allow discharge of treated processed wastewater. Currently, Kerry Ingredients discharges their production wastewater to the City Wastewater Treatment Plant. Kerry Ingredients has proposed to stop discharging their processed wastewater to the City, construct a wastewater treatment facility and commence discharge of treated effluent to Brick Creek Pond.
The Council discussed if there would be any harm to the Mill Pond water quality. Public Works Director, Gary Smith, reported that the discharge is very clean and would not harm the water quality. The Council does not dispute the permit application.
They also approved to reduce the speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph on Highway DD, also known as Fairground Avenue, all the way to HWY 29.
Finally, the council approved End of Year 2014 Fund Balances totaling $139,422.01 and moving $4,750 funds from assessor to street sign project and they approved the 2013 4th Quarter Overtime Report.
