Medford Man Pleads No Contest to Fraud Charges

Thursday, January 16th, 2014 -- 8:19 AM

-A Medford man reached a plea deal in Taylor County Court on Tuesday for fraud charges.

Nicholas Johnson, age 20, was charged with several counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, identity theft and misappropriate use of an ID. The charges varied from misdemeanors to felonies. Johnson initially had over 60 counts of identity theft filed against him, but due to deals reached, that number had been reduced.

The incident allegedly happened while Johnson worked at the AmericInn hotel in Medford late last year. Johnson allegedly used customer credit card numbers to pay tuition and insurance bills.

During a plea hearing, Johnson entered a no contest plea to the three misdemeanor charges filed against him all of them being fraudulent use of a credit card. The 10 other felony charges filed against him were dismissed, but read into the record.

Johnson will be on probation for three years and will spend three months in the county jail for one of the misdemeanors. He will also have to pay restitutions in the amount of $660.33 as well as a $200 fine and court costs on each count. If he successfully completes his probation he may have the incident expunged from his record.
