-A 22-year-old woman has pleaded not guilty regarding the death of a 22-month-old girl.Back in June, police responded to a medical emergency call about Alexis Behlke, being unresponsive.
22-year-old Amanda Butts had been watching the girl, her boyfriend?s daughter, that morning. Behlke was rushed to Mayo Health System Osseo, but was pronounced dead a short while later.
The Osseo Police did arrested Butts at the end of July. According to the criminal complaint, Behlke died from acute intoxication from the combined effects of oxycodone, an antihistamine and an anti-depressant. Investigators found bruises on the child's body, and blunt force trauma to her head, chest, arms, and legs.
Butts did enter a not guilty plea by reason of mental disease or defect in Trempealeau County Court back in September and a judge had ordered an examination. On Tuesday, Butts wanted to withdraw her not guilty plea by reason of mental disease or defect and simply enter a regular not guilty plea.
Butts has been charged with first degree reckless homicide, which carries a maximum possible term of imprisonment of 60 years.
