Congressional Negotiators Closing in on Spending Bill

Tuesday, January 14th, 2014 -- 8:32 AM

-Top congressional negotiators are closing in on an agreement on a bipartisan $1.1 trillion spending bill that would fund the operations of government through October and finally put to rest the bitter budget battles of last year.

The massive measure would flesh out the details of the budget deal that Congress passed last month. That agreement gave relatively modest relief to the Pentagon and domestic agencies from the deep budget cuts they would otherwise face.

The chairmen of the House and Senate Appropriations committees are working to finalize the few remaining details and release the measure. It has been negotiated by House Appropriations Committee Chairman Harold Rogers, a Kentucky Republican, and his Senate counterpart, Maryland Democrat Barbara Mikulski, along with their top lieutenants.
