The new and updated wing of the Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center will welcome its first residents today.

After long discussions and eventual approval by the Clark County Board of Supervisors, work began on the facility toward the end of 2017.  Shayla Stokes and Angela Greshcner provided me with a tour of the new wing.  Today, the wing will welcome two guests and continue to welcome more guests each day.

Angela:  "Two the next day and then next week, probably a couple more each day.  I think by the end of this week, the maximum will be six, so transition slowly.  And then at the end of next week, when they're done needing access to the second floor that they're updating right now, then those room will be available too."

The new wing includes 12 private rooms with their own bathrooms and another room does have the option to house two people an example being if a husband and wife were at the facility and wanted to be together.  There are also multiple sitting areas for guests and their families with outside access.  They also have a kitchen and conference room for guests and their families to use.  For now, the facility will not be changing their census in terms of guests and employees.  They will simply be moved around.

The building is older, so unique challenges were discovered, but the work continued at a steady pace with construction crews meeting those challenges when they were discovered.  They are still doing some remodeling in other areas of the building as they continue to give the facility a face lift.  Thankfully, the COVID pandemic didn’t slow them down much.

Angela:  "We did have a period where, because of the regulation we were under, we did have to stop admissions.  But as far as slow us down, not much.  It has been steady.  We had to pause admissions, but it's been busy.  I think now is when our rehab services have started to pick back up again.  And that has been very welcoming because in November and December we went through a really challenging time here."

Again, the Clark County Rehabilitation and Living Center will begin moving in guests today and that will continue into next week.
