First Impressions and Placemaking in the City of Neillsville

-The Neillsville Improvement Corporation is currently working with the Clark County UW-Extension and the West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission to work on two very important projects, First Impressions and Placemaking.Dan Clough, President of the Neillsville Improvement Corporation gave me some background on the NIC and the First Impressions Program, especially regarding the City of Neillsville.
Dan said, "This is a group that was formed in 1989. So, its been around for awhile in Neillsville. They've got plenty of projects done. Some of their past projects include the town square park, they got the gazebo built and the vintage light posts down town. The group took on some projects, we took on a First Impressions Project. This is a program that the UW-Extension pioneered. That program is where we exchange, with a similar sized community, a group of evaluators so we get to see our community from unbiased eyes."
Placemaking is a mult-faceted approach to the planning, design and management of Public spaces. Dan talked about Placemaking in more detail.
Dan said, "On the Placemaking Project, that is a program that has been used by the West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission. And this is a community effort to plan, design and manage public spaces. It provides areas that are used by the people. They call it Placemaking because you're making a place people want to be in."
The First Impressions Program and Placemaking hold many exciting opportunities for the City of Neillsville.
