Wednesday, January 8th, 2014 -- 4:56 PM

-A Stratford man has reached a plea deal regarding the death of his friend.

Thirty-year-old William Bowden has charges of homicide by drunken driving, OWI, and others filed against him after the death of his friend Timothy Spindler in January of 2012.

The two men were ice fishing on the Big Eau Pleine Reservoir when the vehicle Bowden was driving broke through the ice. Bowden escaped, but the 34-year-old Spindler drowned.

Bowden had a total of six charges filed against him including four felonies of homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle, homicide by use of a vehicle with PAC, OWI 4th offense within 5 years and operating with PAC 4th offense within 5 years. He also had two misdemeanors including resisting or obstructing an officer and bail jumping.

In the plea deal, Bowden plead guilty to the OWI charge and the rest were dismissed and read into the record. A sentencing hearing will be set within two months and Bowden's $150,000 cash bond will continue.
