New Credit Card Scam Hitting Wisconsin
Tuesday, December 17th, 2013 -- 8:32 AM
-Wisconsin has begun to experience a new, slick credit card scam as they provide you with all the information except the one piece they want. The scam works like this, an individual calls giving their name, badge number and saying they are from the Security and Fraud Department of Visa or Mastercard. They then tell you that your account has been flagged for an unusual purchase of an Anit-Telemarketing Device for almost $500. They proceed to tell you your credit card number, who it was issued by and your address to send the credit to with your next statement.
The caller proceeds by saying they want to give you credit for the purchase by giving you a ?Control Number? and they then proceed to ask you for the last 3 digits of a number on the back of your card. This number is used to identify that it is indeed your card.
With that, the scammers have everything they need and you?ll be charged almost $500 immediately after the call. Any credit card company will never ask for anything on the card as they already know the information since they issued the card.
