3rd Reading and 2nd Reading of Two Ordinances Passed at Clark County Board of Supervisors Meeting
Monday, November 18th, 2013 -- 8:25 AM
-The third reading of the firearms ordinance and the second reading of the disposal of property in the Sheriff?s Department?s possession were passed at the Clark County Board of Supervisors meeting. The firearms ordinance takes a misdemeanor crime and turns it into a civil forfeiture. Meaning instead of having a criminal record you would have a forfeiture fine similar to that of a speeding ticket. In other words you pay money and money only for your charge. There would be no misdemeanor crime for a penalty. With the passing of the third reading, 24 voting yes and 3 voting no, it is now a law for the county.
The second ordinance gives the Clark County Sheriff's Department the ability to dispose of items in their possession that are not subject to a criminal investigation. That would include items like totaled vehicles from accidents. This passed with all 27 present voting yes.
