High school students have returned to class in Danvers, Mass., two days after a 14-year-old student was charged with murder in the death of a popular math teacher. The school reopened Friday after being closed for two days, although grief counselors were made available Thursday.
Philip Chism is charged with killing 24-year-old Colleen Ritzer. Investigators have not disclosed a possible motive for the slaying that has stunned the community 20 miles north of Boston.
Ritzer's alma mater, Assumption College in Worcester, held a "quiet and prayerful reflection" at the school's chapel on Friday. Ritzer graduated from the Catholic college in 2011 with a degree in mathematics.
She is described by a school official as "a talented student" and a "cheerful presence in and out of class."
