Memorial Medical Center Community Forum, Part 1
Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013 -- 8:08 AM
-Memorial Medical Center staff, board members and members of the hospital?s steering committee held a forum for the community about the future of MMC and healthcare in the county.MMC?s steering committee consists of board member Gary Weirauch, Assistant Hospital Administrator Ryan Neville, Business Development Manager Lisa Montgomery and Dr. Ken Weimer.
The meeting started out with figures regarding the impact MMC has on the City of Neillsville. The facility employs 220 people, which is about 8% of the city?s population. There have been suggestions that MMC keep the clinic and the ER and funnel all else to a regional medical center.
If that was done, that would cost 175 jobs and a minimum of $10 million in wages and benefits. When multiplying that number by 4, which refers to how many times wages circulate through the economy, that would be a loss of $40 million which would devastate home prices, affect schools and business and prompt people to leave the county.
