Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation Keeping Close Eye on Federal Infrastructure Deal

Tuesday, July 6th, 2021 -- 8:01 AM

(Raymond Neupert, WRN) -The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is keeping a close eye on a proposed federal infrastructure deal from the White House.

The head of the Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation is hopeful that a proposed infrastructure deal from the White House will bring better internet and roads to rural Wisconsin. President Kevin Krentz says road funding cannot be discounted, all the way down to county highways and roads that criss-cross the state.

"Whether that be local roads which we desperately need in parts of the state, or whether it be major highways to continue to move that product to the markets that it needs to be."

Krentz says more has to be done to connect rural farms to fiber lines. "That last mile is extremely expensive. The incentives and the grants need to be built into the program so that gets done."

Krentz says the spending can't be all on major highways and interstates.

"Some of that dollars, a proportion of that dollars, needs to get to the countys, needs to get to the towns around the country to be spent on local road infrastructure."
