Civil War Display at The Highground
Saturday, October 12th, 2013 -- 6:43 AM
-Those that walked through the Learning Center doors at The Highground on October 5th may have thought that they went back in time 150 years.Their first encounter was with Ward Zischke clad in dress of the Invalid Corps/Veterans Reserve Corps of 1863 - 1865.
As their journey back in time continued they found themselves reading newspapers, telegraphs, letters home and even the Emancipation Proclamation and Gettysburg Address.
Viewing photographs of yesterday?s heroes brought back memories of family stories. Their path was lined with walls containing over 20,000 names of the Wisconsin men killed in battles or from diseases or infections from their wounds, throughout this epic time in our country.
And as they rounded the bend, they were met by Civil War Veteran William W. Robinson, as portrayed by his grandson.
The exhibit will remain on display in the Learning Center until November 29th. As always the exhibit is free of charge and open 7 days a week from 10 am ? 5 pm.
