Red Cross Blood Drives on Monday and Tuesday
Saturday, September 28th, 2013 -- 6:18 AM
-October is Liver Awareness Month, and the American Red Cross reminds eligible donors that organ transplant patients often rely on donated blood products.Liver transplant patients may need 30 or more transfusions during the surgery.
Liver transplants are the second most common transplant, with more than 6,000 performed every year in the U.S. and more than 16,000 Americans are currently waiting for a liver transplant, according to the American Liver Foundation.
There will be a couple local opportunities for you to donate at the beginning of next week.
There will be a blood drive here in Neillsville at the American Legion on Monday, September 30th from 11am to 5pm. There will be another on Tuesday October 1st at the Thorp Fire and Ambulance District Station from 12pm-6pm.
The Red Cross has not issued an emergency need for blood; however, donations throughout the summer were down considerably. The Red Cross would like all eligible donors to come to the Neillsville blood drive to end September on a high note. But, of course, they would appreciate donors coming to the Thorp Blood Drive as well.
