-The Neillsville City Council passed a resolution in support of Memorial Medical Center at their meeting on Tuesday. The Interim CEO of Memorial Medical Center, Dave Baltzer, made an appearance at the meeting asking for the council?s support.
The Inspector General of the United States of America is seeking legislative authority to eliminate ?Necessary Provider? designation for ?Critical Access Hospitals. If that?s done, this would allow the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to remove the ?Critical Access Hospital? designation for those necessary providers that meet the 35/15 mile distance from another hospital.
The Inspector General?s office indicates that 64% of CAHs across the country would be affected; however they did admit they were being conservative. It is more likely 90% of CAH hospitals would be affected.
The resolution in support of MMC passed with unanimous support.
