Clark County Health Department's Special Flu Clinics

Tuesday, September 24th, 2013 -- 10:37 AM

-It?s that time of year again. Time for a flu shot.

Brittany Mews of the Clark County Health Department said that anyone age 18 or younger can receive a free flu shot at one of their clinics.

"The Clark County Health Department is going to be offering Flu Clinics throughout the county," said Brittany. "Providing flu vaccines free of charge to all children regardless of insurance status. That means any individual 18 years of age or younger is eligible. Children under the age of 18 need to have a consent form filled out and signed by a parent/guardian."

Adults can receive a shot as well at the clinics for a cost of $25.00

Brittany continued, "Adults may also receive their flu shot at these clinics. The Health Department will bill the following insurance carriers for adults: Medicaid/Badger Care, Security Health Plan, Humana, Advocare and Medicare Part B. You must present your insurance card at the clinic. If you do not have one of the above insurance carriers, you may pay cash or check for the adult flu vaccine. The cost of the adult flu vaccine will be $ 25.00."

The CDC recommends people receive a shot yearly.

"Did you know the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends everyone 6 months of age and older get a yearly influenza vaccine, ideally by October? Influenza is a contagious disease caused by influenza viruses that infect the respiratory tract. It can cause mild to severe illness, sometimes leading to death. Influenza symptoms often begin suddenly with fever, headaches, tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, nasal congestion and body aches. Last flu season there was a significant influenza like illness activity among students in several of the local school districts. The best way to prevent influenza is to get vaccinated each year. "

The clinics will be held in several locations including the Neillsville High School Auditorium on Tuesday, October 1st from 3:30 to 6pm, the Greenwood Middle/High School Library on Thursday, October 3rd from 3:30-6pm, the Loyal Elementary Conference Room on Tuesday, October 8th from 3:30-6pm, the Abbotsford Elementary Conference Room on Thursday, October 17th from 3:30-6pm and the Clark County Healthcare Center?s Multipurpose Room on Monday, October 21st from 3:30-6pm.
