-An ex-assistant track coach was sentenced in Clark County Court for having a sexual relationship with a student.Scott Bergman, age 44, who was an assistant track coach at the Thorp High School, was arrested for having sex with a 17 year old student last November. After he made bail, he was arrested again in March for continuing to see the student. Back in July, Bergman did plead no contest to felony bail jumping and sexual assault of a student by school staff. Two counts of sex with a child 16 or older, another felony bail jumping and a possession of child pornography charge were dismissed, but read into the record.
District Attorney Lynsdey Boon-Brunette recommended that Bergman should be sentenced to the maximum suggested in the Pre-Sentencing Investigation which stated that Bergman was supposed to be the adult in the situation and instead took advantage of the girl and her family. The PSI also cited other incidents Bergman had with underage minors. Bergman?s attorney, Mandy Caffee, asked for probation and no jail time feeling that her client could learn from his past mistakes.
In the end, Judge Todd Wolf sentenced Bergman to 1.5 years in prison with two years of extended supervision. He must also pay court costs and fines and follow all terms of his probation.
