Tuesday, September 17th, 2013 -- 8:56 AM
-The Owen City Council heard a public works report and heard from area business owners at their meeting on Tuesdayof last week.Public Works Director Gary Smith reported that while the Public Works Dept. was flushing hydrants, they located two that are leaking. They will try to tear them apart and rebuild them; otherwise they will have to purchase new ones. Smith has also been talking with MSA regarding grant funding for the Lift Station #1 project. It was suggested by the City to install a box culvert on Willow Road. The waste water treatment project has also been progressing. Soon they will dredge the ponds and insulate the chemical storage building.
Owen business owners gathered to discuss the Indian Summer Fest and the closing down of Central Ave. for the event. Some business owners feel that closing down Central Ave. is affecting their business as their customers do not have street access to their businesses. Other business owners felt that the event drew people into their places of business. The complaints will be taken into consideration for next year?s event. One Business Owner encouraged all the businesses and the City of Owen to work together and keep the lines of communication open. She also stated to the business owners that they should take advantage, during the downtown events, to promote their businesses.
The council also approved to keep the 4-way stop signs at Altenburg and Bjornstad and they approved to repeal and recreate Ordinance 11-2-7 regarding Noise Limitation and Noise Pollution Prevention, with changes noted to the sound pressure level limits setting them at 95 and 85.
