The Highground Holds September 11th Observance
Thursday, September 12th, 2013 -- 9:10 AM
-The Highground held an observance for the September 11th terrorist attacks on Wednesday. The ceremony began with the ringing of the bell 21 times. Then the names of those lost in Iraq and Afghanistan were read with the bell rung after every 10th name. The Highground has been doing this since 2003 and they take the time to do it at every event they hold. Their list started with 13 names and has grown to 147.
Afterwards, a talking circle was held to give people the opportunity to express how they were feeling. It was a very emotional moment, with tears shed, as the few veterans that were there told their stories and expressed their thanks and others offered their thanks and appreciation to all veterans and The Highground.
The Highground truly was a place of healing Wednesday afternoon.
