Annual Meeting and Town Hall Meetings Reviewed at Owen-Withee School Board Meeting

-The Owen-Withee School Board reviewed what was discussed at their annual meeting at the end of August and they also discussed the future of the district at their Monday meeting.Regarding the annual meeting, Owen-Withee Board Members felt that an Open Forum placed somewhere in the agenda would give district residents the chance to speak about concerns they have about the district. They decided to add that to the annual meeting agenda for 2014.
The board also heard an update regarding the revenue limit override meetings. Bob Houts, District Administrator of Owen-Withee, related to the board how the Town Hall meetings went at Longwood, Hoard, Hixon and Green Grove. Mr. Houts said, while attendance was small at most meetings, the district gathered some good information. The main emphasis at the meeting was that the building project of last spring is dead.
He said that the board needs to renew the budget override referendum, which is currently $150,000; that was approved 10 years ago, that will expire at the end of the 2013-14 school year. The common idea that came up was a $250,000 override for 5 years. The increase from $150,000 to $250,000 was suggested because of the loss of revenue the district has experienced due to state cuts the past few years. The reduction from 10 years to 5 years will give the district and residents the ability to adjust to the dollar amount easier.
As of now, the Owen-Withee District is planning on a February or April referendum. More meetings this fall will be held to inform voters, of that area, of the district?s plans.
