Clark County Board of Supervisors Approve Resolution Urging Wisconsin to Accept Federal Medicaid Funding
Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 -- 8:33 AM
-The Clark County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution urging Wisconsin officials to use federal Medicaid funding to improve Badgercare.Gov. Scott Walker announced earlier this year that he will not join the federal Medicaid expansion under Obamacare. The federal health care law offers states federal money for Medicaid in an effort to insure up to 17 million people nationwide. Walker put forth his own health care proposal that would make fewer people eligible for Medicaid and instead force more people to buy private health insurance.
According to data provided at the meeting, over 900 adults in Clark County will be kicked off of Badgercare due to Wisconsin not accepting the federal money.
The board of supervisors brought up the issue at the meeting as many have heard from their constituents that they want to remain on Badgercare. They are going to send a letter to Secretary Kitty Rhoades of the Wisconsin Department of Health Services urging the governor to accept the funds.
They?re hope is that Walker may change his mind on the issue citing a case in Ohio where a similar incident happened.
However, the supervisors were reluctant to even put the issue on the floor at the meeting and felt it was a ?waste of time as Walker has already made up his mind on the issue.? In the end, they did pass the resolution 16 voting yes and 12 voting no.
