Softball Upgrade and New Math Course Discussed at Neillsville School Board Meeting on Monday
Tuesday, August 27th, 2013 -- 8:32 AM
-The Neillsville School Board held a regular meeting after the annual meeting Monday evening.A few items were discussed during the meeting. The board approved phase 1 and 2 of a softball field upgrade. Brain Barth and Jerry Pfeifer, the individuals behind the upgrade, were able to collect enough donations to begin the work for the field. They are still trying to collect enough funds to begin phase 3 of the project and the total cost of the project is estimated to cost over $32,000.
The board also approved a new math course. The new course would be known as Math 9 and it would provide a wide variety of skills that would not only help students who plan to enter the workforce when they leave school, but college bound students as well by preparing them for the more difficult Algebra 1 class.
The class would also emphasize ?soft skills? which include items like problem solving, collaborating with others and being on time.
The class was created after two Neillsville teachers toured local businesses and asked employers what they were looking for if students were to start working for them when they left school.
