Seat Belt Use At All Time High
Sunday, August 11th, 2013 -- 6:50 AM
Seat belt use in Wisconsin is at an all-time high, but is still lower than the national average.A recent observational survey by the Wisconsin DOT shows about 83-percent of motorists are buckling-up. That?s a 3-percent increase over last year, but below the national average of 86-percent and well below our neighboring states where over 90-percent of motorists buckle-up.
Transportation safety officials credit public education and law enforcement efforts like the annual "Click It or Ticket" campaign for encouraging more people to wear their safety belt.
Last year in Wisconsin, there were about 105-thousand convictions for failure to fasten safety belts.
