July 2013 Fourth Safest in Traffic Deaths Since WWII

-Last month was the fourth safest month of July in terms of traffic deaths since World War II.With 55 fatalities in 50 Wisconsin traffic crashes, last month was the fourth safest month of July in terms of traffic deaths since the end of World War II, according to preliminary statistics from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The safest month of July occurred in 2009 with 46 fatalities, and the deadliest July occurred in 1966 and 1971 with 140 fatalities. Traffic fatalities last month also were 20 fewer than July 2012 and four fewer than the five-year average for the month of July.
As of July 31, a total of 284 people have died in Wisconsin traffic crashes in 2013, including 41 motorcycle drivers, two motorcycle passengers, 19 pedestrians and eight bicyclists.
Traffic deaths through July were 55 fewer than during the same period in 2012 and 24 fewer than the five-year average.
