Clark County Board of Supervisors Previews New Firearms Ordinance
Thursday, August 1st, 2013 -- 8:26 AM
-The Clark County Board of Supervisors discussed a new firearms ordinance at their meeting last week.During the first part of the meeting, the board approved rescinding the old firearms ordinance for the county as it was more restrictive than the state statutes.
The board did not make any motions on the ordinance; they simply discussed it and looked at the changes made in the new one. They will come back and vote on it in August.
Sheriff Greg Herrick strongly encouraged them to accept this ordinance calling it more ?user friendly.? By passing this ordinance it would take a misdemeanor crime and turn it into a civil forfeiture. Meaning instead of having a criminal record you would have a forfeiture fine similar to that of a speeding ticket. In other words you pay money and money only for your charge. There would be no misdemeanor crime for a penalty.
An example Sheriff Herrick gave is during a heated argument, neighbors may do something foolish with a firearm or weapon and when the victim goes to press charges, they don?t want a felony on the neighbor because of how long they've known them and realize it was probably an isolated incident.
