Former Republican Gov. Tommy Thompson has joined the Bipartisan Policy Center to work on a project recommending ways to contain health care costs. The center bills itself as the only Washington-based think tank actively promoting bipartisanship. The center announced Wednesday that Thompson will work on the health care project alongside former Democratic U.S. Sen. Tom Daschle and Republican Sens. Bill Frist and Pete Domenici. Thompson says he believes bipartisan support can be found for ways to provide quality health care at an affordable cost.
During his race for U.S. Senate last year, Thompson tried to cast himself as a conservative Republican, voting to vote to repeal President Barack Obama's health care overhaul law. He won the GOP primary but lost the general election to Democrat Tammy Baldwin.
