Black River Falls Receives Grant to Help Fight Drug Abuse

-The Black River Falls School District is getting a grant from the Department of Public Instruction to fight substance abuse.The district will receive $13,000 for the initiative and use it to fund programs that will encourage kids to stay away from drugs and tobacco and prevent bullying.
According to a Youth Risky Behavior Survey conducted by the Jackson County UW-Extension Office, 12.5% of Jackson County teens in grades 9-11 have abused over the counter drugs. That?s up 2% compared to three years ago.
The grant will also allow some high school kids to teach the elementary students about bullying and how to avoid it.
The district will use the grant during the 2013-2014 school year.
