-A man is being held in the Portage County Jail after causing an accident that resulted in the deaths of two Wisconsin Rapids women and the hospitalization of a Rudolph man.The sheriff's department says 21-year-old Melissa Peterson and 21-year-old Stephanie Eberhardt were rear-seat passengers in a pickup truck that left the road and crashed into several trees around 2 a.m. Saturday in the Town of Linwood. The truck came to rest on the passenger side.
A front-seat passenger, a 21-year-old man from Rudolph, was airlifted to a Marshfield hospital where he is currently in fair condition and is expected to recover.
A statement from the sheriff's office says the driver, 22-year-old Tim Seevedra, was taken into custody and is now in the Portage County Jail. Sheriff's officials say they are recommending charges of homicide and causing injury by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
Officials say speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, but say the incident is still under investigation.
