Milk Production Increases in June

-State and national dairy farmers continued to produce more milk in June compared to the same period a year earlier.According to the Wisconsin Ag Connection, the USDA's monthly milk production report indicates the Dairy State put out 2.26 billion pounds of milk last month, up 1.8 percent from last June, but less than May's 2.37 billion pounds, mainly because June had less days on the calendar.
Nationally, 15.8 billion pounds of milk was produced in the 23 major dairy states, up 1.6 percent from June 2012. That was also lower than last month's 16.5 billion pounds.
California continues to have the highest total production with about 3.49 billion pounds, although that state's monthly production was lower than last year. Kansas has the greatest increase in year-to-year output as that state produced 245 million pounds of milk in June, up 9.4 percent from the same month last year.
Due to sequestration, USDA data is not providing figures on the number of cows on state dairy farms.
