Several AEA Areas Expanded in Clark County

-Several areas in Clark County have been expanded as agricultural enterprise areas. The expansion comes under an order signed by State Agriculture Secretary Ben Brancel.
Agricultural enterprise areas are part of 'Wisconsin's' farmland preservation program which is intended to encourage preservation of land use and promote agricultural economic development appropriate to the area.
In Clark County, the new order expands an existing AEA by 66,467 acres, bringing the covered area to 164,451 acres in the towns of Mayville, Colby, Unity, Beaver and Loyal.
The AEA petitioners want to preserve the region's agricultural heritage, assure production capacity, assess and protect environmental resources, and provide tools to minimize conversion of farmland to non-farm uses.
This is the fourth round of AEA designations. DATCP can designate up to a million acres as AEAs.
