Former Wisconsin Man Makes Court Appearance for Arson and Tax Evasion

-A former Wisconsin man made a court appearance in Jackson County for arson and tax evasion.Brian Adkins, age 40, of Las Vegas, Nevada and formerly of Albion, Wisconsin, is accused of hiring someone to burn down the Rustic Mill Tavern, which he owned, in order to collect the insurance money.
Adkins is also accused of collecting and failing to pay state and county sales taxes totaling over 24 thousand dollars and collecting and failing to pay over 7,000 dollars in state withholding taxes.
Adkins has several charges filed against him. They include arson of a building, three counts of failing to file income tax return, four counts of theft of moveable property in various amounts, resisting or obstructing an officer, and making a fraudulent insurance claim.
During an arraignment on Monday, Adkin?s attorney waived a preliminary hearing and the judge found probable cause for the case to proceed to trial. However, Adkin?s attorney also requested a change of venue and a different judge.
If convicted on all the tax counts, Adkins could face up to 23 years in prison and $70,000 in fines. If convicted on all charges, Adkins could face up to 68 years in prison and $190,000 in fines, or both.
