-A Marshfield man accused of killing his girlfriend wants to withdraw his guilty plea for the case.Gabriel Campos is accused of murdering Maisie McCullough, his ex-girlfriend and mother of his child, back in the Fall of 2012. McCullough had been stabbed and her throat slit. After changing his plea several times, Campos did plead guilty to the crime at the end of May.
It was also discovered later that Campos had attempted to hire an inmate to kill the man McCullough was dating after they broke up. Campos had been charged with another homicide. That charge was dismissed, but can be taken into consideration when he is sentenced for McCullough?s death.
During a court appearance on Tuesday, Campos told Judge Todd Wolf that he wanted to withdraw his guilty plea on the grounds of ineffective counsel and fire his public defenders saying ?they do not have my best interest at heart. Campos has already been signed a new attorney.
Campos will appear in court again at the end of July for a motion hearing and he is still set to be sentenced at the beginning of August.
