Neillsville School District To Receive More General Aid
Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013 -- 10:42 AM
According to Neillsville School District Administrator John Gaier, his district is one of the 45% of schools statewide that will receive more general aid in the next school year.Gaier says the amount of aid should go up because their expenses changed greatly this past year as opposed to the 2011-12 school year. Expenses for this past school year went up largely due to the HVAC project they did that was close to $500,000. He said with the current formula, the more you spend the more aid your school will receive.
Gaier said the total projection for general aid this coming school year is $5,868,492 compared to $5,448,300 the previous year.
This is just an estimate that the district can use at their annual meeting at the end of August to predict what the tax levy will be based on the annual budget they will put together.
In the next several months the Department of Public Instruction will collect all the exact expenses from all the districts in the state and then in October an exact amount of aid will then be distributed to each district.
Gaier said that he doesn't think the amount of aid will be as high as the DPI is projecting, but it will be higher than a year ago.
