Weekly Crop Report

Tuesday, July 2nd, 2013 -- 8:27 AM

The Wisconsin Ag Statistics Service?s weekly crop report on Monday showed that 96-percent of the corn crop is now seeded, with 92 percent emerged and 20 inches tall on average.

Wisconsinagconnection.com said most reporters noted that corn will be knee high for the fourth of July in their area, but others say the crop is just starting to emerge. Unfortunately, there are many acres in central and northern Wisconsin that have no corn planted in certain fields yet.

As for other crops, soybeans were 93 percent planted and 85 percent emerged as of Sunday and first cutting alfalfa was 77 percent harvested.

Although many crop producers around the state continue to have difficulty getting their spring tillage and planting work wrapped up, Wisconsin's corn and soybean acreage will still be monumental in size this year.

The USDA's latest prospective plantings report shows that Wisconsin is expecting to plant the second largest corn crop in history in 2013; and the third highest soybean acreage.
