More Wisconsin Residents Become Eligible for COVID Vaccine March 1st

Friday, February 26th, 2021 -- 12:01 PM

(WBAY) -Wisconsin is prioritizing teachers and child care staff as new groups become eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine on March 1.

Education and child care will jump to the head of the line of the new groups and be vaccinated in March and early April.  The Wisconsin Department of Health Services says the remaining groups can anticipate vaccinations in April and May.

Those remaining groups include people enrolled in Medicaid long-term care programs, some public-facing essential workers, non-frontline health care workers, and people in congregant living settings.

The state announced in January that all of these groups would be eligible starting March 1, an increase of 700,000 people eligible for the vaccine.  DHS says the state’s allocation of vaccine from the federal government is expected to increase on March 1.

However, supply is still limited. That’s the reason for prioritizing teachers and child care workers.
