Clark County Board of Supervisors Show Support for Election Policies
Wednesday, May 22nd, 2013 -- 9:13 AM
-The Clark County Board of Supervisors showed their support for several election policies at their meeting on Tuesday. Two resolutions regarding absentee ballots were on the agenda.
The first resolution was asking to show support for moving the deadline for in person absentee voting back to the day before the election. Recent legislation moved the deadline to the Friday before Election Day instead of Monday.
However, many people have told Clark County?s Clerk, Christina Jensen, they were not aware of this. Sometimes things come up and they can?t get to the polls on Tuesday so this would give them the opportunity to vote. This was approved with all supervisors voting yes.
The second resolution was to oppose set hours to obtain an absentee ballot. Legislation being considered now would only allow people to obtain absentee ballots between 7:30am and 5pm. However, Christina asked that the supervisors show their support of opposition of this item as most clerks work full time jobs and need evening hours to get people their absentee ballots. This was approved with all voting yes.
