DNR Will Broadcast Meetings

-The Wisconsin Natural Resources Board will start broadcasting its public meetings beginning next week. The state Department of Natural Resources says its monthly meetings will be aired live on the agency's website.
It's a move the agency says is intended to make decisions and policy more transparent to the public. Officials said it was pushed by stakeholders who said the DNR must do a better job of involving the public.
Many legislative proceedings and other state government business are now broadcast live on Wisconsin Eye. The public also can watch proceedings of the University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents online.
The DNR typically conducts its board meetings in Madison, and then during the summer months it moves the meetings around the state.
The seven-member board sets policy for the DNR, but governors have increasingly exerted control over the department since the board lost its appointment power of secretary in 1995.
The Legislature also has increasingly played a more active role in state natural resources policy.
The next board meetings are May 21-22 in Madison.
