Career Readiness Class Discussed at Neillsville School Board Meeting
Friday, April 19th, 2013 -- 8:11 AM
-The Neillsville School Board received an update on the career readiness class at their Monday meeting. This 18 week course helps students learn good work habits, writing a good resume and makes them eligible for work release once the class is completed.
23 students took the class with 17 of them currently working at a job in the community. Many of them are Juniors that will work next year as well.
There were 3 students at the board meeting that talked about their experience with the class. They really enjoyed it and said it provided a great insight into what it's like to have a job.
Amy Gerhardt, the teacher of the Work Habits Class, also informed the board how these jobs are chosen for the students. Amy works with the Department of Instruction, Workforce Development, and local employers.
An interesting item of note that was brought up from local employers is that they want to hire High School kids, but they've had problems with poor communication and attendance on the student?s part in the past.
