Clark County HELP Brings Disaster Preparedness Education to the Area
Monday, April 15th, 2013 -- 11:33 AM
-Clark County is pleased to announce the launch of a Disaster Preparedness Education and Outreach Initiative to be known as Clark County HELP, which stands for Helping Everyone Learn Preparedness. As you may recall, we had several stories talking about the development of this project at the end of 2012 and beginning of 2013. This initiative is supported by Federal grant funding along with local in-kind matching contributions of participant?s time.
Three phases were developed in order to get the project off the ground. Phase 1 consisted of the development of a travelling display to include information on previous flooding and tornado events in Clark County. This display will be used in local libraries and county buildings initially.
Phase 2 includes the purchase and distribution of 150 NOAA All-Hazard radios to elderly homebound individuals in Clark County through collaboration with the Clark County Aging Office and local amateur radio operators.
Finally, Phase 3 includes presentations to local officials on natural hazard risks.
This effort would not be possible without the contributions of those who are participating in the HELP partnership. The Agencies and Organizations involved in this effort include the Clark County Health Department, Clark County Sheriff?s Department, Clark County Aging Office, Local Amateur Radio Operators, Clark County Board of Supervisors, West Central Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission, the 1897 Clark County Jail Museum, Memorial Medical Center, the Clark County UW Extension Office, Central Wisconsin Broadcasting, and Clark County Emergency Management.
It is their hope that the travelling display and other materials developed as part of this outreach effort will continue beyond the funding provided by this grant and HELP create a Clark County which is better prepared when disasters strike.
