-Mark Tyler, President of OEM Fabricators, Inc., gave a presentation at the 2013 Clark County Education Summit.Mark provided an interesting insight into statistics regarding the number of students employed after a secondary school, be it college or tech.
Mark said that roughly half of the students that attend a four year college are employed when the graduate. For tech schools, which tend to be two year programs, the number is higher.
Mark offered the suggestion for students to look at a job probability index when deciding what type of secondary school you want to go to. Will it land you a job, have a good salary, still be around in five years, are the skills transferable to other positions, and how much debt are you going to have.
Many students have a crippling amount of debt when they leave school which can take over 20 years to pay back.
Mark also offered suggestions to businesses and schools saying that they should act like a single unit and work together more. Some of the practices he offered were to know your neighbors, destroy any misconceptions, try stuff, don?t be afraid to fail, find local solutions and others.
