Former Wisconsin Man Charged with Arson

-A former Wisconsin man was recently charged for arson.Brian Adkins, age 40, of Las Vegas, Nevada and formerly of Albion, Wisconsin, was recently charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with three counts of failure to file Wisconsin withholding tax returns and four counts of sales tax theft. Adkins was also charged with arson of a building as a party to a crime, obstructing an officer, and making a fraudulent insurance claim.
According to the criminal complaint, Adkins operated the Rustic Mill Tavern on Highway 54 in the Township of Albion. In July of 2011, a fire at the Rustic Mill caused heavy damage to the building.
The complaint alleges that Adkins collected and failed to pay state and county sales taxes totaling $24,333.94. The complaint further alleges that Adkins collected and failed to pay state withholding taxes equaling $7,857.78.
If convicted on all the tax counts, Adkins could face up to 23 years in prison and $70,000 in fines. If convicted on all charges, Adkins could face up to 68 years in prison and $190,000 in fines, or both.
Adkins will be in Jackson County Court again in two weeks.
