Stanley Man Found Guilty

Thursday, March 28th, 2013 -- 10:20 AM

A Stanley man has been found guilty for starting a standoff at his home in the City of Stanley.

Joshua Walters, age 23, got into an argument when his girlfriend arrived at their home and discovered he was making methamphetamine. She told him she was leaving and he told his girlfriend he would kill her and her family if she left. She did manage to escape and get to the neighbors, but he remained and began the standoff with the Stanley Police Department.

After four hours, the police fired tear gas into the home, forced their way in and arrested Walters.

Walters has charges of recklessly endangering safety, domestic abuse, and disorderly conduct filed against him. He was found guilty of the domestic abuse and disorderly conduct charges due to a no contest plea. The recklessly endangering safety charge has had prosecution and sentencing deferred for the time being.

For the charges Walters was found guilty for, he will serve two years? probation and must serve 40 hours of community service. He must also pay restitution, follow all terms of his probation and pay various court costs and fines.
