Friday, March 15th, 2013 -- 12:11 PM
-A Thorp man was arrested for felony bail jumping on Wednesday evening.Scott Bergman, 44 of Thorp, was an assistant track coach at the Thorp School District and had been accused of having sex with a 17 year old student last November. Bergman has been to court already for the charges against him which include one felony charge of sexual assault of student by school staff and two misdemeanor counts of sex with a child age 16 or over.
Bergman was arrested on Wednesday because it was discovered that he was in contact with the 17-year-old victim. It started with text messages and e-mails and on Wednesday they were found together at a church near Thorp. According to Clark County District Attorney, Lyndsey Boon-Brunette, he has had contact with the 17-year-old since his first appearance for the charges.
Boon-Brunette set a new bond of 25,000 dollars against Bergman and he cannot have any contact with his victim as well as others that helped facilitate their meeting which includes Bergman?s roommate.
Bergman complained during his hearing that the ?bail was too high? and he said, ?Where am I going to live if I can?t have contact with my roommate.? Judge Counsell answered, ?With someone else.? He also said, ?Taking into account all the factors in this matter, the bond is appropriate.?
Bergman will appear in court again in April.
